Kate Schmidt has been in the design business for five years. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Communications, Kate pursued a career in Interior Design. Landing an internship in North Carolina, Kate discovered floral design. Her mentor, Ginger Bromley, encouraged Kate in her new talent and allowed her creations to be displayed in the shop. Often times, she was designing specific arrangements to meet the needs of their clients. After graduating from college, Kate moved to the greater Detroit, Michigan area after marrying the man of her dreams. He encouraged her to pursue her artistic dreams and start her own business. New Creations began as a dried floral arrangement business, but after creating all of the floral arrangements for her own wedding and many of her friends’ weddings; Kate found her passion. Kate gives her client a unique perspective in her designs. Because she developed her technique within the business, her floral arrangements have a style and flair that are contemporary, yet natural. She approaches design not with symmetry, but with balance. Kate has a very sophisticated look to her arrangements reflecting the cutting edge style that appeals to the modern-day bride. Typically, there will be no baby’s breath, carnations, or eucalyptus in her arrangements. After meeting with each bride, Kate offers a personalized and specific design for the Bride’s wedding décor. Kate’s business has flourished in the few short years since it began. The New Creations name originates from II Corinthians 5:17 which states, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” When Kate is not making wedding bouquets and lavish floral arrangements, she can be found water-skiing with her family, horseback riding at her childhood home in North Carolina, or decorating her house. She attributes all of her success to the Lord and is so thankful to have the opportunity to fulfill her passions, all while still staying home with her young son! |
